The PLAY-off program for high schools provides students the opportunity to learn, write and perform the Contemporary Music they're most passionate about, as they prepare for a "Battle of the Bands" concert!

TMP provides an on-campus emotionally safe creative space, facilitated by inspiring local emerging artists, for young musicians who already possess some singing or instrumental skills. Through this fun and engaging student-driven activity, these young musicians build self-esteem, explore self-expression, and practice valuable life skills in creative collaboration and professionalism. In “Ed.” speak, this is experiential project-based music enrichment that promotes social emotional learning.

Each band rehearses at least once a week after school, in preparation for performances throughout the year. They also attend workshops to perform for one another, with group analysis and constructive criticism. The school year concludes with the PLAY-offs (Battle of the Bands), where the winning band receives local studio time. In the future, they will proceed to inter-school competitions.

Concert Requirements

Sound Matters

All band members must be enrolled at school

Have the bands sound like professionals

Performers can be in more than one band

Have everyone be able to hear themselves

Each band must perform at least:

The technical solution:

These high-quality professional performance opportunities broaden artistic community and greater local community engagement. Our unique platform enables bands to form coalitions that share promotional efforts and the festival's profits.

Each band of the coalition performs only one “set” in these multi-night series, yet all performers are expected to attend and promote all shows! Far greater attendance is created by their pooling of email and social media efforts, resulting in greater band revenue for their portion of the shared financial return.  TMP secures the venue, supplies professional lighting and sound reinforcement services, and provides backstage refreshments.

TMP finds local business sponsorships to underwrite the series costs, as well as encourages celebrity participation to increase audience draw.  The professionally captured images and multi-camera video (multitrack audio) will be added to our site’s hosted library (future) and be available for free to each band to bolster their individual promotional efforts.

Future plans for The Music Path include the online TMP Channel, to host and stream our exclusive video content: Free for community members or single event ticket sales.

All TMP events have been captured with high resolution photography, video, and professional audio – there are PLAY-off, On the Horizon, and Celebrity Fundraising concerts captured with mutli-camera video and multi-track audio. Our future plans include building a separate site to showcase this content, as a fundamental component to attract friends, family, and fans to our movement.

Advanced  Education  for  Media  Production — AEMP

There are ongoing discussions with universities to establish a Los Angeles based campus for media production internships. In addition to affordable housing, interns will be provided “real world” production opportunities with ongoing support and continued learning provided by remote accredited professors.

Affordable introductory workshops presented by TMP ambassadors, chosen from our community of emerging artists. They inspire and expose students to the joy of collaborative music-making, and also provide exposure for TMP. When held at high schools, they give school administrators an opportunity to assess student and faculty interest in our PLAY-off program.

In 2019, TMP ambassadors Aeb Byrne and Luna Achiary of the band Kena conducted a workshop for students of the Navaho Nation Whitehorse High School in Montezuma Creek, Utah. Students participated in traditional drum circles, and also learned about ProTools, synthesizers and electronic loops.
