Among High School Musicians, Emerging Artists And All
Passionate About The Creative & Performance
Spirit Of Contemporary Music!
Contemporary Music has inspired generations throughout the world
– the voice of countless cultural movements
So much of it, from the Blues to Heavy Metal, Hip Hop and everything in between, was created through a collaborative open process that integrates contributions from all members, giving voice to those who need to be heard!
Yet most high schools, if they can afford music at all, still offer only Marching Band, Orchestra, Choir or possibly Jazz Band
Though laudable, to many these traditional programs don't seem relevant or provide enough opportunity for self-expression. Our PLAY-off program for high schools provides the creative space for musicians to form bands, write and play the Contemporary Music they’re passionate about, and to find their voice.
Many of the financial opportunities that once fostered our
favorite songwriters  &  bands have now disappeared
Social events now often hire DJs instead of live musicians. Music festivals and clubs regularly employ predatory practices like “pay to play.” . . . TMP's Virtual Venu and On The Horizon programs encourage and support PLAY-off graduates and emerging artists, as they set forth on their musical journey.
Today, video connects us all . . . when we simply can't be there
Streaming performances  &  Original Video Content
Our Virtual Venu enables artists to stream performances to any browser, with options for monetization, additional content & group chat. We create original exclusive video content through partnerships with our celebrity and industry friends.

Our Mission

Created with Robby Krieger of The Doors, The Music Path (TMP) is a nonprofit that builds a supportive community among high school musicians, emerging artists and all passionate about sustaining the creative spirit of Contemporary Music and live performance. Our programs are comprehensive and designed to inspire and support the next generation of music-makers – encouraging collaborative creativity, superior musicianship, artistic originality, and engaging performance. We're about making music (live performance), not just tracks.

The Plan

TMP's goal is to establish itself as a leader in offering Contemporary Music in our schools, supporting emerging artists and providing opportunities designed to unite all who share our passion. This requires efficient, effective and sustainable technical and organizational infrastructures, including an online platform to connect all stakeholders and implement our programs. At it's core is a musician branded website featuring curated hosting of unique and proprietary music related video content. It will be created in partnership with students, emerging artists, celebrities and industry professionals. Students attract family. Emerging artists attract friends. Celebrities attract fans.

Creative Funding

TMP is spearheading a movement! As a community, with everyone contributing through financial support or talent, creating cultural change is possible! . . . Sustainable income streams will be generated through general memberships, exclusive content / pay-per-view access charges, and advertising fees. For donors who adopt high schools or sponsor TMP events, there will be easy, up-to-date online tracking of funds expended, results achieved and additional ongoing needs.

Video Library & Streaming

The TMP library will feature live/archived streams of musical performances from our programs (see below) and will feature exclusive concert/studio performances, interviews and educational content, made in partnership with celebrities and industry professionals – TMP retains the donated monetization rights and covers production costs . . . The Virtual Venu will host live and archived video streams of musical performances that enable performers to connect with our TMP community and audiences far beyond geographic constraints. [ Due to the pandemic, video streaming has now become a cultural norm and an essential outlet for emerging artists and celebrities alike. ] TMP will provide artists an integrated set of tools to easily create, broadcast and monetize performances that are viewed on any device with a browser, easily accessed with a single shared link. Unlike available video hosting platforms, a customized landing page can include the additional content once commonly available with albums or CDs.

The Programs

(Click on icons to learn more)

Provides H.S. students with the creative space to form bands that prepare for an end-of-semester SHOWCASE or SHOWDOWN (Battle of the Bands).

Community building concerts to foster emerging artists and PLAY-off graduates. Provides recruitment opportunities to fill session facilitator roles for the PLAY-off programs.

Video hosting where bands can charge for live streamed and archived performances. Customized pages with options for additional content and simulcasting to social media platforms.

One day workshops for all grades that expose faculty and students to TMP and the joy of collaborative music making.

Virtual Venu

Virtual Venu will provide musicians a comprehensive, optimized, easy-to-use set of integrated tools that enable multi-camera (including iphones) stereo audio streaming to a customized page on our site, available on any device with a browser. Although there are currently many stand-alone products and services to address the various technical aspects of streaming live musical performances, compatibility and integration can be confusing.

In addition to the main video viewer and tools to enable a band's pay-per-view or subscription options, additional widgets are available to add content that once accompanied albums and CDs, such as images and text, as well as for free video content and links to merchandizing or social media platforms.

TMP has implemented PLAY-off pilots at two high schools in Glendale, CA. Over the three years at Hoover High, student interest and participation have consistently grown – there are currently five bands. . . The PLAY-off program provides a creative space and professional guidance for high school musicians who already possess some singing or instrumental skills. At least once a week, each student formed band rehearses after school in our on-campus studio to prepare for an end-of-semester showcase or showdown (Battle of the Bands) – they compete for prizes like local studio recording time and winners proceed to inter-school competitions. Each band is required to choose and perform at least three songs:

All bands, mentored by local emerging artists, attend a workshop every other week to perform for one another – students are asked to offer positive comments followed by constructive criticism. Through this fun and engaging activity, students build self-esteem, explore self-expression, and practice valuable life skills in creative collaboration and professionalism.

TMP continues support for PLAY-off graduates and emerging artists who share our passion. Our On The Horizon concert series provides a high-end professional performance opportunity and production structure that enable bands to form coalitions to build community and audience. TMP's first concert, co-sponsored with our fiscal sponsor Glendale Arts, was held last Summer at the Alex Theatre, which they manage.

These multi-night events feature a one set performance by each band. When possible, they will be joined by celebrity headliners to increase draw and sponsorship prospects. All band members attend each other's shows, promote the entire series on their social media, and share in the financial returns.

TMP secures the venue, supplies professional lighting and sound reinforcement services, and provides backstage refreshments. We also capture performances with stills and three camera video production, live streamed to our site and archived. In addition to building TMP library content, and the revenue generated from it, the bands are given access to this media for Virtual Venu pages and/or personal promotional efforts.

MusikAction Workshops are affordable introductory workshops presented by TMP ambassadors, chosen from our community of emerging artists. They inspire and expose students to the joy of collaborative music-making, and also provide exposure for TMP. When held at high schools, they give school administrators an opportunity to assess student and faculty interest in our PLAY-off program.

Last year, TMP ambassadors Aeb Byrne and Luna Archiary of the band Kena conducted a workshop for students of the Navaho Nation Whitehorse High School in Montezuma Creek, Utah. Students participated in traditional drum circles, and also learned about ProTools, synthesizers and electronic loops.

This groundbreaking after school program, created with Robby Krieger of The Doors, provides high school students the opportunity to form bands and choose their favorite music to rehearse and perform in this end-of-year competition. Unlike many extra curricular programs, it is free and almost entirely student driven!

The Music Path provides the an on-campus rehearsal studio, with facilitators (actual performing artists) to provide technical support, inspiration and guidance as needed. Students learn to collaborate and coordinate school / practice / life balance, while playing the music they’re most passionate about!

Video content can be accessed on the TMP site in either a familiar searchable gallery style as used on YouTube etc., and/or on an individualized page in our Virtual Venu, whichever is applicable or desired by the contents owner. For TMP owned content, such as the live performances from our programs or the exclusive original content made through partnerships, access will be available as commercial-free with membership, as pay-per-view, or free with advertising.

Through TMP’s partnership with William Penn University in Oskaloosa Iowa, visiting student interns will provide Los Angeles-based video production, while campus-bound students remotely control our local robotic cameras and perform post production services.
